SkyCharts 1.5.8 (Retail)

This iPhone 3G or iPod touch application uses your built-in GPS to give you position information overlaid on a sectional chart, along with other useful features.

Features Include: View your actual location on top of a sectional chart. Zoom in and out from your current location or pan around the screen. Sectional charts are stored locally so once the entire sectional is downloaded you don't need a data connection to view. The program also provides ability to view approach charts and A/FD information in PDF format, as well as ability to dial ASOS/AWOS weather directly from the program. SkyCharts will also notify you of a sectional that is out of date (expired) and provide an option to download an updated sectional directly on your iPhone or iPod touch device. The program will also load METAR information for airports around your location. As another program bonus you can use SkyCharts with the X-Plane flight simulator (see HTML user documentation below, for details).

Pros: Full-screen utilization, zoom in and out, direct links to approach charts and A/FD, GPS plotting of location.
Cons: Lacks flight planning.
Notes: ** Reviewed on an iPhone 3G - Firmware 2.2.1 **, approach charts and A/FD information can be cached for off-line use, simply view (open) items you are interested in and will be cached. The application setting are located in iPhone/Touch setting application.

"This program provides useful mapping information directly on your device. I like the feature that allows you can view A/FD and TPP information directly from inside of the program. If the program had distance calculation and a route line it would be perfect. {version 1.4.3.1}"
