NavGPS Pro 4.4b (Shareware)

NavGPS Pro Screen Shot ...

This program uses your handheld GPS to give you a moving map and other navigation information.

Features Include: This Pocket PC application has a moving map, compass information screen that shows: course, time/date, altitude, speed, nearest airport feature, and position. You can also create custom flight plans and the application will display the route information (points). This application also has an EFIS screen that is a great addition to your standard navigation instruments. There is also a Navgps Basic (version 2.5) with less features for $99 USD.

Pros: Nice route display screen that shows lots of information, large text fields, memory card, night and day mode, topography, and hardware button support.
Cons: No terrain warnings, en-route weather or TFR information, no E6-B calculator, no way to assign zoom buttons to hardware buttons.
Platform: Pocket PC version and Windows PC version have the same features, there are many differences between the Basic and Pro version see website for details.
Notes: ** Reviewed on a Toshiba e335 **, NavGPS also accepts exported AirPlan routes.

"Nice software the basic works fine, however the big drawback is you pay for the PDA software and there is no windows software to create routes offline! You get 1 free update and then you have the purchase the rest, you don't even get a full year for the price! You can't start the program up without connecting to the GPS so there is no way to really get into a local mode and use it. Too bad, its good software but they need to change the way you can use for better functionality. There is better software that gives you these options and more for less price! {version 2.5 Basic}"

"Having used several competing programs, I was amazed at how well NavGPSPro worked. As others have stated, the author provides excellent support - I got an answer to a VRP question in about 2 hours. The product is updated frequently, and is probably the most feature-complete PPC solution available. The only con (also mentioned by others) is that, despite very clear airspace demarcations on the moving map, the program doesn't give warnings about upcoming transitions. Terrain warnings would also be nice, and the Version 4 update incorporates elevation and obstruction information, so I can only assume that this will appear in a future version."

"I've been using the NAVGPS Pro for a few weeks now and have really come to like its clean user-friendly interface. I've had problems reading other programs onscreen displays, but NAVGPS PRO has been the best. I use it for pleasure VFR flights and it works wonderfully. Interface it with a Bluetooth GPS and you have no wires. The author is constantly providing updates. A version 4.x is currently in Beta so we can look for more great things. The product is also cheaper then most of the other similar applications (both the software and Avdata updates), although that wasn't my only consideration. I also use the PC based flight planner called AIRPLAN that allows you to export a flight plan to NAVGPS format. Pros: Easy to use interface Easy to customize Interface Clean interface the is not cluttered Price Cons: The only thing I can think of is the lack of airspace warning messages, but that's not a biggie. "I have used NavGps for over 6 months. The software works great and the authors continue to make enhancements. Upgrades have been free of charge. The software is easy to use and more important it's accurate. It would be well worth your time to download the trial software and give it a spin.
