NAVAir 1.89.5 (Shareware)
This program uses your handheld (or PC) and GPS to provide a moving map and weather information.
Features Include: This moving map program has powerful navigation features inside of a single screen. This is the only program reviewed on our site that uses 100% of the screen and has transparent buttons. This alone makes this moving map shine above the competition. The customizable map screen will show: airports, NAVAIDs, water features, airspace, SUA, TFRs, terrain information, and more. The compass information screen shows: course, GPS status, altitude, speed, and direction to next waypoint. You can switch the screen view between HSI and EFIS arc modes. The program also has a night-mode (theme) for use during night flying as well as nearest airport feature and "Direct To" navigation. There is also built in weather to the program, along with support for various weather radios (such as WxWorx).

Cons: Database updates purchased only by subscription, PC Installer does not show memory requirements. No hardware button assignment, sectional map overlay or ETE.
Platform: None -- Pocket PC, Windows and Windows Smartphone have same features.
Notes: Demo uses outdated aeronautical data and will expire after 45 days, register to get current database updates.

| "NavAir has a very clear and readible MM display with popup information which helps to reduce unnecessary screen clutter.
The large onscreen buttons provide a very good interface that requires little if any use of a stylus and works well in rough air.
Unfortunately at $309 for NavAir software and over $200 for annual subscription updates, I found AnyWhere Map, which has more features with better user customization to be a far better value. {version 1.87.1}" |
