Kestrel 4000 (Hardware)

This portable handheld weather station provides useful and accurate weather information while on the go.

Features Include: Exterior temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors provide fast and accurate readings, ability to store environmental readings with the built-in (1400 data point) memory system for later recall. This unit will record the following: wind speed; pressure trend; barometric pressure; wet bulb temperature; relative humidity (%); heat stress index; dewpoint; density altitude; wind chill; air, water, and snow temperature (-49F to 257F degrees); current, average, and maximum air velocity (from 0.8 to 135 mph). This unit will also calculate altitude (from -6000 to 30,000 ft) based on barometric pressure or reference altitude.

Review

Pros: Waterproof and floats, 5-year warranty, flip-top (replaceable) impeller, comes in gray, orange, and olive drab colors.
Cons: For the price it would be nice if the unit came with the optional wind vane; no backlit keypad.
Notes: Includes: soft carrying pouch, neck lanyard, and 2 AAA batteries. Optional PC interface cable to transfer collected data to your computer. Option to add Night Vision (NV).
