CoPilot iPhone 2.9.3 (Retail)
This iPhone and iPod Touch application provides flight planning, weight and balance, and basic moving map in a single interface.
Features Include: Great for doing quick calculations, flight planning, and more. Flight planner provides ability to save/retrieve flight plans (including headings, distance, fuel burn and time enroute). Weight & Balance (W&B) calculator (unlimited stations) useful in quickly calculating and graphing the W&B envelope. The program also calculates crosswind, winds aloft, and TAS. The program comes with a built-in HSI that shows real-time GPS position and information from your current route. The system can download a listing of airports from around the world to store locally or you can search for an airport and the system will cache the information locally. Share or download other aircraft profiles from other users.

Review
Pros: Full featured flight planning and route calculations, the ability to email profiles or trips to other users, ability to file U.S. flight plans.
Cons: Time consuming to configure initial W&B, no status update on waypoint downloader, no Zulu time or basic E6-B conversions.
Notes: ** Reviewed on an iPhone 3G - Firmware 3.0.1 **, it is recommended that you configure pilot, aircraft and other settings before you build your first flight plan.

| "I've been using CoPilot for my VFR flight planning for a while now and it does exactly what I need. The most important feature is accurate W&B _and_ fuel consumption calculations, thanks to comprehensive aircraft data (easily taken from your actual POH). A very useful app for any VFR pilot. After I added my club's aircraft to the online library, many more members have started using CoPilot as well.
The only feature that I'd really like to add is an option to retrieve automatic (global) METAR information and import them to the active flight plan right before the actual flight. That would encourage me to pay whatever price the developer chooses to ask :) {version 2.10}" |

| "I have been using Co-Pilot for about a year now for both VFR and IFR flight planning. It works exactly as described. The flight planning function is easy to use and accurate. The in-flight navigation provides a useful avionics backup. The upgrades (improved editing mostly) over the past several months were very helpful. The only upgrade I am waiting for is the ability to print from an iPhone. {version 2.9.5}" |

"The application is very well done, it has many features that can save times during a flight planning session, and it have the potential to be useful in the air as a navigation backup.
However, GPS does not work in many cases, not only in the air, but in many other situation in which other applications use well the gps positioning.
I hope the developers solve this issue as soon as possible because in term of potential is one of the most interesting application I have seen for navigation.

"Does NOT work in the air, no gps signal on iphone, just triangulate from cell towers....very disapointed. {version 2.8.1}"
Developer's Response: "The iPhone GPS and the associated CoPilot functionality works fine in the air. If the iPhone does not have access to cell towers, it can take significantly longer to get an initial location fix." |
