News: Flaws In Checklist Cited After Malmo RJ100 Climbs Unpressurized
Posted by Matthew Justice on Feb 6, 2008Swedish regional carrier Malmö Aviation had a RJ100 en route from Stockholm to Gothenburg when they realized the cabin was unpressurized. The RJ was climbing towards its cruising altitude of FL280 (28,000 feet) as it reached about 18,000 feet flight attendants told the pilots that oxygen masks had deployed in the passenger cabin.
In response the pilots put on oxygen masks and, with the aircraft at about 19,000ft, they then initiated a descent. The aircraft continued on to Gothenburg; there were no injuries among the 42 passengers and five crew members.
For whatever reason, the switches for the air conditioning packs were left in the 'off' position. While the packs should be checked as part of the climb checklist, the checklist at the time only contained a summary entry regarding the air supply — the full details featured only in the expanded checklist.
