Mount Kisco, NY, January 18, 2008: AirGator, Inc., the leading provider of innovative Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) has announced that its family of flash memory NAVPad 8 and NAVPad 10 EFBs have successfully passed RTCA/DO-160E decompression tests in fully operational state, qualifying them as the only Class I and Class II EFBs to be usable in all flight regimes and at all operational altitudes without the need for paper-chart backup under the FAA's AC 120-76A and Job Aid 8200.98 requirements.
During the test both the NAVPad 8 and NAVPad 10 EFBs were displaying an approach procedure while simulated cabin altitude was raised from 8,000′ to 48,000′ in less than 15 seconds. In this simulation of rapid cabin decompression, both units operated without any adverse effects. The units continued to operate for a period of 10 minutes at absolute pressure altitudes varying from 45,000′ to 48,000′, then were brought down to sea-level pressure over a 20 minute period. As a result of this test, AirGator NAVPads have qualified as the only cost-effective EFBs to meet FAA requirements under Job Aid 8200.98 Appendix 8 – they are safe from both loss of function and rapid-decompression explosion of the EFB system, which could impair the flight crew.
This qualification applies to all existing and new AirGator solid state storage NAVPad, NAVPad 8 and NAVPad 10 EFBs, in storage capacities of 4Gb to 40Gb. AirGator utilizes specialized components and subsystems, taking rugged, military-grade commercial tablet PCs and bringing them up the exacting and unique standards of corporate, commercial and carrier operators and aviation authorities world wide. Because of our unique design and manufacturing processes, AirGator is the only manufacturer of portables EFBs to offer such a system to the market.
NAVPads are the backbone of AirGator's EFB product line, already preferred by many pilots and flight departments. AirGator offers three high capacity solid state platforms with display ranges of 5″ to 10.4″ and flash-memory storage capacities of 6 GB to 40 GB. “With superb wide-screen daylight readability, high capacity storage, high speed processors and touch screen operation, these devices enhance our robust lineup of EFBs for commercial, corporate and general aviation”, says Amir Tirosh, President of AirGator. He went on to say solid state EFBs are preferred by many pilots and flight departments since they do not have an altitude restriction, but most solid state devices in the market today have limited storage capacity and processing power. We have worked closely with our manufacturers to design a solid state device which can provide all the EFB capabilities – not just a display for approach plates.
All NAVPad EFBs use the Windows XP operating system and can be used with NAVAirEFB, AirGator's award winning moving map and real time weather software using either XM WX or WSI/Sirius satellite weather feeds, with NAVAir Approaches, AirGator's innovative NOS charts viewer or with Jeppesen's complete software family including NAVSuite. In addition, AirGator provides a wide range of compatible software including electronic logs, E6B calculators, electronic manuals, and other aviation-specific applications. AirGator's cost-effective solutions range in price from under $1000 to $4000.
