News: Possible Navy NOTAM Issued For Spy Satellite Shootdown
Posted by Matthew Justice on Feb 20, 2008Fox News has reported that Ted Molczan (a satellite watcher) who has discovered a NOTAM issued for airspace west of Maui that coincides with the predicted orbit of the spy satellite due to be shot down.
The satellite USA 193, also known as NROL-21, is owned by the National Reconnaissance Office and lost power and radio communication soon after going into orbit on Dec 14, 2006 and is going to be shot down for safety reasons.
The NOTAM time is between 2:30 and 5:30 UTC or 4:30 to 7:30pm Wednesday (Feb 20th) evening Hawaii time. Navy officials told FOX News Tuesday that the “window of opportunity” will open as soon as Atlantis returns to Earth, which will likely be in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning in Hawaii.
