During a flight a from Toronto to London the co-pilot onboard a 767-300 suffered a report nervous breakdown during flight. According to the captain the co-pilot was “acting in a peculiar manner and was talking loudly to himself.” The Air Canada (AC848) had 149 passengers on-board and the captain decided to divert to Shannon airport so the co-pilot could receive medical attention right-away.

Air Canada ordered a replacement crew from London to fly the passengers on their final hop back to London.

In a written statement from Air Canada: “The captain and crew of AC 848 followed standard operating procedures in light of the co-pilot falling ill. The captain elected to divert to Shannon and landed without incident. At no time was safety compromised.”
