News: Green Electronics Guide From Greenpeace
Posted by Matthew Justice on Apr 22, 2008Well since today is Earth Day it only seems fitting to Blog about something Green. Greenpeace has released their green electronics guide that ranks the 18 top manufacturers of personal computers, mobile phones, TV's and games consoles according to their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling.
The guide is rated on a scale from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the most green). This year Samsung, Toshiba and Nokia topped the list while Microsoft, Philips, and Nintendo were ranked the lowest. The guide was based on two main criteria a) does the company clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances; and b) do they takeback and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.
Too bad they did not review the other major players such as Palm, RIM, and Motion Computing. Also, I can only hope that the manufactures who scored low on this scale will work towards moving their ranking ups.
