News: Is Continental To Blame For Concorde Crash?
Posted by Matthew Justice on Mar 19, 2008A French prosecutor has recommended charging Continental Airlines (and an engineer involved in the design of the Concorde) with manslaughter over the Concorde crash in July 2000 in Paris.
The generally accepted report is that the Concorde ran over a strip of metal that fell off a Continental DC-10 that had just taken off. A tire on the Concorde ruptured and sent the debris through a wing, crippling the aircraft, which crashed into a hotel, killing all 113 people on board.
Continental has pledged to fight the charges. A successful prosecution would be likely to result in millions of pounds in damages against the airline.
