Posted by Matthew Justice on Aug 2, 2007American Airlines, the world's largest carrier has announced they will start testing (Wi-Fi) high-speed internet service on select 767-200 transcontinental flights next year using the AirCell service.
AirCell will build cellular towers throughout the continental U.S. to transmit the signals to airplanes. The airplanes will have three antennas, two on the bottom and one on top. Inside the airplane the system will work with any Wi-Fi enabled device such as a PDA or laptop computer. American says that if the service is a success they will implement it throughout their fleet.
