News: Airbus A380 Finally Delivered

Posted by Matthew Justice on Oct 15, 2007

Singapore Airlines A380 ...

Nearly two years late, Airbus finally, today delivered their first A380 to Singapore Airlines! The Chief Executive of the airline, Chew Choon Seng, stating that it was said it was “well worth the wait.” This has to make the biggest aviation news of the day or maybe even the week! Now Singapore Airlines has only 10 days to prepare the aircraft for it's maiden (paid) passenger flight on October 25th between Singapore and Sydney.

Singapore has chosen a cabin layout for 497 passengers, but could be configured in some cases to seat upwards of 800 people. First class passengers on this aircraft have some nice features including large completely lie flat beds and much more. Airbus has logged 189 orders or firm commitments for the plane, and says that number may exceed 200 by year's end.

The celebration today, was attended by 500+ guests. This was very low key compared with the triumphal 2005 ceremony when the A380 was unveiled. The 10,000-strong audience then included leaders from France, Germany and Britain who were not allowed inside the plane where problems lurked.
